Rewarding Young Poets and Artists

Monday, March 2, 2009; Page C10

Admit it: You are talented. Your family, friends and teachers know it,
too. So why not share your talents with everyone else by entering one
of the contests at right?

Create a picture worthy of being framed that depicts how you are
unique. If you have a knack for words, take a shot at writing a sonnet
for Shakespeare's birthday. Or write an essay about your teacher if you
think he deserves recognition for his talent at teaching.

Just don't brag too much if you win. Nobody wants to be around a showoff!

"Celebrate Who I Am" Art

What are your interests? What are you good at? What are your dreams?
These are the things that make you different from everyone else. If
you're 5 to 15 years old, VSA Arts and CVS Caremark invite you to
create a piece of visual art that represents you. Feel free to use
traditional art materials or more unusual items. Imagine what you could
do with aluminum foil, wrapping paper or hair rollers! One piece of art
from each state and the District will be included in a children's art
exhibition at Union Station this June, and 10 representatives of the
exhibition will be honored at a reception on Capitol Hill. All
submitted artwork will be included in an online art gallery.

Deadline: Get working on your masterpiece now because the deadline is this Friday.

How to enter: Ask your folks if you can go online to
