St. Charles Hospital

St. Charles Hospital is a 301-bed acute care and rehabilitation facility located in Port Jefferson, NY on the north shore of Long Island. Founded in 1907, the hospital began as a home for children with disabilities who were sent there for medical treatment and education. The polio epidemic of the late 1940's and early 50's further established the hospital's role as a regional rehabilitation provider. Today, St. Charles Hospital continues to offer comprehensive rehabilitation programs for children and adults, including a specialized brain injury unit and programs for disorders such as muscular dystrophy, spina bifida and cerebral palsy. The Hospital's mission is to provide the best of the art and science of health and medicine across the continuum of human life, to serve as advocates for the health needs of the community, and to collaborate with others in fulfilling this mission.
The Hospital offers a full spectrum of medical, surgical, pediatric and obstetrical services. It has an expansive rehabilitation network of outpatient treatment sites throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Together with over 500 members of the Hospital's medical and dental staff, St. Charles' 1,500 employees deliver compassionate care to the sick and needy. The Hospital is renowned for its Centers of Excellence, including Rehabilitation, Orthopedics and Obstetrics - and offers the only Emergency Department in the area with a team of physicians who have all completed their residency training in emergency medicine.

St. Charles' Rehabilitation Department provides specialized programs in the areas of cardiopulmonary, spinal cord injury, stroke and neurology/neurosurgery rehabilitation and orthopedics. The Hospital also operates the only pediatric traumatic brain injury unit and rehabilitation program on Long Island.

St. Charles Hospital treats over 10,000 inpatients a year and more than 175,000 outpatients, with over 120,000 visits at its rehabilitation networks throughout Long Island.
