PBHA is a student-led, staff-supported nonprofit organization based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. For more than a century, PBHA programs have offered vital experience to generations of leaders in service and activism while building partnerships between students and local communities. Today, 1,800 volunteers participate in 73 programs serving 10,000 low-income people throughout Greater Boston. PBHA programs fall into several categories: adult education, advocacy, after-school, housing (including the only student-run homeless shelter in the country), in-school, mentoring, and summer. To maximize our effectiveness, we serve specific communities throughout the year and in a multi-faceted manner -- it is a strength of PBHA programming that our basic model has developed quite differently in response to expressed community needs.
