The Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) is an independent, non-profit organization established by the United States Congress and incorporated in 1996 to support the mission of the National Institutes of Health (NIH): improving health through scientific discovery and application. Guided by a board of directors composed of distinguished leaders in medicine, human services, and business, the Foundation for NIH works to advance research and application by linking the generosity of private sector donors and partners to NIH programs. In close collaboration with NIH and other agencies in HHS, the Foundation supports research and education partnerships and major projects that improve the health and well-being of children and adults in ways that are pioneering and cutting edge, creating strategic, innovative partnerships that are essential to accelerating scientific discovery for human health. The Foundation facilitates public-private partnerships of all sizes and configurations.
