EHCAC was founded in 1965 as part of President Johnson's 'War On Poverty'. We are a community action agency and have been on the front line of the war ever since. Our mission is, 'To promote self sufficiency and improve the quality of life of those in need.' We promote self sufficiecy for the economically disadvantaged residents of Erie and Huron Counties in the great State of Ohio. More than half of the people we help are children or the elderly; many are known as the 'working poor'. Our programs include a Federal Head Start program; and our Community Service Block Grant program which provides a variety of social services. CSBG services include: Home Energy Assistance Program, Emergency Food Pantries, Summer Food Service Program, Norwalk Emergency Homeless Shelter, Senior Transportation, Emergency Rent/Mortgage Assistance, Free Income Tax Preparation, Emergency Home Repairs and Parents As Teachers.
