The Disability Action Center(DAC)is a non-profit, consumer governed, Center for Independent Living that provides services to citizens with disabilities and their families in 23 South Carolina counties. The DAC was founded and incorporated in 1994. The DAC is committed to cross-disability services that support inclusion and full participation in community life. The Center's mission, 'Empowering people with disabilities to reach their highest level of independence', is achieved through the provision of four core services. Those services include Advocacy, Peer Support, Independent Living Skill Training, and Information and Referral. The program for which we are requesting support from the CVS Caremark Charitable Trust is called Empowering Students and Parents (ESP). ESP provides adapted technologies, technical assistance (such as facilitation, mediation and legal interpretation), expertise, and encouragement to students with special needs, and the parents and families who support them, in two South Carolina counties.
