Dakota West Arts Council Inc

Founded in 1979, Dakota West Arts Council (DWAC) is the umbrella organization for over 80 artists and arts groups. The mission of Dakota West Arts Council is to support and encourage artistic opportunities to area residents and visitors. DWAC reaches more than 25,000 people through member organization participants and by outreach to Bismarck/Mandan and surrounding communities. The main program areas are Art Venture,which provides unique arts opportunities for children who have disabilities and for which this grant is requested; arTView, a series of cable access television programs featuring member arts organizations; Brown Bag in the Park, a summertime tradition of providing entertainment during the lunch hour at a local park; Live Art in Motion, a day long community event at a local mall showcasing area artists; and a re-granting program that passes on monies from the city of Bismarck to arts groups.

Dakota West Arts Council was founded in 1979 and currently has over 80 members, member organizations, and donors. Dakota West Arts Council reaches more than 35,000 people locally through member organization participant events and by outreach to Bismarck/Mandan and surrounding communities. All Dakota West Arts Council event have two main purposes--the first is to provide ways, proven or new, to promote the arts, individual artists, and arts organizations within the community; the second is to make arts activities and events accessible and available in public settings at minimal or no charge so people can experience them. Core programs include Art Venture, an affiliate of VSA arts international, which provides unique arts experiences to children who have disabilities or are at risk; Brown Bag in the Park; Live Art in Motion; Downtown Art in Motion; and re-granting of city funds to local arts organizations.
