The Cooke Center for Learning and Development envisions a world where all children and adolescents with special needs are recognized as valued members of their communities and provided with the inclusive education necessary to assume the roles of their choosing. Founded by parents of five children with disabilities in 1987, Cooke is now New York City's largest inclusive special education organization. We serve more than 500 individuals, ages 3-21, through instructional programs in partnership with more than 70 Head Start centers, daycare programs, and elementary and middle schools around the city.
For the past several years, we have been reaching many more students through long-term, on-site professional development and teacher training in inner city parochial and charter schools. This past year, we impacted classroom learning for more than 2,000 students in 12 schools. In addition, we share our knowledge with those committed to supporting inclusive learning by conducting and participating in workshop trainings and conferences, both locally and nationally.
