Children's Rehabilitation Center

Through a grassroots effort in 1953, interested and concerned citizens and community leaders of Trumbull County joined together to form the Trumbull County Society for Crippled Children. In 1957, the Society formed a local outpatient pediatric rehabilitation center taking the name of Halsey W. Taylor, who had been a guiding force as vice president on the Crippled Children's committee. Previously, children with Cerebral Palsy, neurological and lifelong physical challenges and their families had to travel to Cleveland or Pittsburgh for rehabilitation, cities located approximately 55 miles to the west and east of the Center's location in Warren, Ohio.
As the years passed, increasingly larger numbers of children were served and the staff grew accordingly. In 1969, the Center moved into its current building, which was later given its present name of Children's Rehabilitation Center (CRC), dedicated to the memory of Mr. Taylor. Since that time, the building has had two major additions/renovations, and today, CRC staff members serve over 700 children from birth until age 18. Since the Center's founding, children have been admitted regardless of their family's ability to pay. This has resulted in CRC providing almost one million dollars in free care in the last two years alone!

Children's Rehabilitation Center's primary mission is to provide a high standard of physical, occupational, infant and speech/language therapies, counseling, support and assistive technology services to medically fragile and disabled children and their families. The Center's thriving history strongly serves to validate its demonstrated capabilities and qualifications in working with children, our target population. Because our geographical location does not have a mass transportation system, the umbrella of programs CRC provides has always been unique in that it is the only Trumbull County facility to provide all of its pediatric outpatient rehabilitation services 'under one roof'. Simply put, CRC has always been, and will always be, about the children.
