The museum's goal is to improve the lives of children and their families by providing innovative public exhibits and activities, facilitating program development with community organizations, and serving as an alternative educational resource for schools, educators, and young students. Post Discovery provides a safe, fun, and nurturing place where children and families learn together through play. It also serves as a catalyst for brining together the full range of children's social service providers to jointly address the most essential educational needs of a community. Founded in 1976 at The Cloisters in Baltimore County, Port Discovery relocated to the historic Fish Market Building near Baltimore City's Inner Harbor in 1998. The expansion and relocation to downtown Baltimore enabled the Museum to serve more visitors, especially those from underserved communities. Port Discovery celebrates its 10th birthday in 2008. The Museum has garnered national recognition for distinctive exhibits and innovative educational programs for children over the past decade.
